In the dead of winter, I'm warm and cozy in my heated studio. I've rearranged some of the tables and the art wall, to produce a very useable space, which has different zones for different needs. Near the door, R's motorcycle sleeps out the winter in a warm space. Next to it are the heavy punching bag, and the double-ended bag, for when I feel like a little boxing. The futon/couch is next to the dance mirror, which can be moved aside when R feels like a little dance practice. In the middle of it is the art wall, and easels, behind which is storage for blank canvases and bikes. Against the far wall is the toolbox and work table, for when something needs to be fixed.

All in all, a good space to work, and with the wifi repeater, I've got a strong Internet connection for streaming audio ... Pandora radio, or SomaFM.

I've been working on a number of projects, including this new piece (sorry, it's sold already):

For those interested in seeing what ZuckerLoft Studio will be offering in the up-coming art walk, here's a list of talent:

Ryan Brooks

Ryan Brooks is a Toronto based artist who enjoys working in a variety of media including: Ink drawing, painting, photography, and sculpture. He gains great inspiration from viewing other artists' work and believes that the energy created by a piece has a palpable effect on the viewer.

A portion of his portfolio can be viewed online at: http://www.behance.net/jrbrooks

Elizabeth Backler, Massey Soap House

In 2008, Liz started Massey Soap House, creating bar soap as well as liquid hand soap, shower gel and other bath and body goodies. She is in the process of launching her website, http://www.masseysoaphouse.com/.

Phaelon

Phaelon has been a DJ for the past 8 years and a producer for the past 3. He is active in the UW DJ club and a former resident at the Rude Native Bistro in Waterloo and at the K/W Art Gallery in Kitchener.

He can be reached for bookings at phaelon@phaelon.cc, and his website is http://www.phaelon.cc/.

Stayce Webber

Stayce is an excellent pen & ink, and watercolour painter whose subject matter runs toward the tribal. Many of her works depict dancers festooned with jewellery.

Blond Heretic Silk Veils

Rebecca will be showing off a display of hand-dyed silk veils. This late addition to the Studio's lineup is a welcome one. Her website is http://www.blondheretic.com/, and her veils are available for purchase online.

A note from Toronto's Artsy Fartsy Group on Facebook:

The Cryptic Canvas (TCC) Event Gallery is hosting a juried, indoor artists exhibition, ART off the Lot, November 5th - 8th. It is being independently run...needless to say it will be a lot more original, creative & fun! TCC is very much a gallery that acts in the interest of the artist. The show is only $500 (per booth, which can be shared by 2 artists) for an indoor venue (which is half of all other indoor exhibitions) & we are not up-charging on extras (ie. walls, electricity, etc. Our cost is the artists cost). We also have a large portion of the budget dedicated to advertising.

The application deadline is Sept. 4th. So, you've still got a couple of days.

And those who did notice took it much in stride.

"I thought it was cool to juxtapose the nude woman with the art in the room," said Mike Markovich, a tourist from Toronto. "I was surprised by how many people didn't even notice her."

His friend, Elizabeth Epstein, added, "It's fitting that such an art project would happen in a museum in New York City."

Hyman asked, "Why is this wrong? There were thousands of people in the Met today looking at nudes as art, but as soon as there is a real nude, it's a big problem."

Neill had the same question, which she posed to the security guard who detained her.
